About
This course is my response to what I see as a rising trend toward pathologising gifted children. The trajectory and velocity is a lot, and I see it not as a problem, but as information. It tells me that parents are not being served accurate information about the developmental and attachment needs of young children. Parenting, like many other aspects of being human, was never meant to be done in isolation. In the not too distant past we had multigenerational households and interconnected communities that met the practical day-to-day needs, the thought partnership, and the emotional scaffolding necessary for children to be raised as healthy, whole individuals. So this course isn't about diagnosing your child. It's about giving you another lens and a way of orienting to the common characteristics and traits in gifted youngsters that, when understood and accepted, can set them up on a completely different trajectory. Disorders and dysfunction do exist, and it's important to understand the other factors playing into the behavioural patterns of children, particularly gifted children, to ensure we are seeing each one of these extraordinary youngsters clearly and accurately. This self-paced introduction to the five Overexcitabilities (aka the heightened intensities that shape how gifted children experience the world) aims to give you exactly that. Across seven deliberately short sessions, we'll move from "what's wrong with my child?" to "what's actually happening here?" and from there we come to a way of seeing that changes everything that follows.
